Belle Sherman Elementary School 2022
Mural by Local Artist TERRANCE VANN
Picture
Terrance Vann painted this beauty during the hot summer of 2022.  Terrance has additional murals in Ithaca on the Commons (2024), BJM Elementary School (2023), WellBeing Pediatrics (2022), ReUse Center (2021), and the Learning Farm!

To share the history of this project, below is the original call for proposals in search of a muralist for the project!

Belle Sherman Elementary School
CALL FOR ARTISTS
Picture
The Belle Sherman Elementary School 5th grade class is seeking a muralist to create a work of art on the Annex wall. After reflecting on their core values and drawing inspiration from the study of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, students would like the mural to convey the importance of a peaceful, safe community, where everyone feels supported, has the freedom to play, relax, and express themselves. Additionally, students would like to emphasize the importance of nature, not only as the backdrop to their everyday life in Ithaca, but also as an integral part of a socially just world. Successful applicants are comfortable working with 5th and 7th grade volunteers to complete the project.
Location:
1,135 square foot Annex retaining wall facing the small parking lot at 75 Cornell Street, Ithaca NY. This building houses the Kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms.
