Request for mural proposals!
THRIVING FUTURES
In celebration of 12 years of organizing in Ithaca NY,
“Get Your GreenBack Tompkins" is funding 12 murals in the Ithaca area!
​Today, we're announcing 11 of these mural opportunities!
Theme: “Building a future where all people & living environments thrive."
1 Award of $6,000 for a wall!
(Opportunity open to all)
​10 Awards of $450 for 10 electrical boxes!
(Opportunity for local/regional artists)
Timeline for all 11 projects:
March 20, 2023 (Spring Equinox) ​proposals due.
​
May - June Wall & boxes painted.
July 8, 2023 Celebration.​
 Note:  This initiative isn't just about painting boxes. Our goal is to inspire and fund a cohort of artists thinking together on the themes below. Finalists and organizing team will meet together for 3 sessions April-June 2023. 
Electrical Box Examples 
Artists will be matched with boxes after finalists are selected.
Primer will be provided for electrical boxes as needed.

Money amounts listed above are to cover both artist stipends and materials.
Themes? ​“Get Your GreenBack Tompkins" would like to fund artists to paint 10 electrical boxes and 1 wall incorporating any of the following...
1 - Building a future where all people and living environments thrive,
2 - Intersection of equity and environmental justice,
3 - Land and food justice,
4 - What does a just and sustainable future look like?
 Note:  This initiative isn't just about painting boxes. Our goal is to inspire and fund a cohort of artists thinking together on themes above. Finalists and organizing team will meet together for 3 sessions April-June 2023. ​
Your 3-part mural proposal:
1. Pictures attached: 3-5 examples of painting experience
2. Picture(s) attached: Image/sketch of the mural you would like to paint
3. In your email:
     - name, contact and brief artist statement,
     - indicate request for box or wall,
     - short mural project description,

     - specific materials list.

Jury:
A panel of Cornell Cooperative Extension staff and community partners will select 11 proposal finalists. 

​BIPOC artists and people from traditionally marginalized identity groups are particularly encouraged to apply.
Orgs facilitating this initiative with Ithaca Murals...
​After 12 years of organizing, “Get Your GreenBack Tompkins" is ending.  We are excited for this collaboration with Ithaca Murals to be a parting gift - part of our finale.  The organizing is shifting... and the work continues!
