YEAR OF WATER
New Mural in Ithaca by
Norma S. Gutierrez

Next to the Waterfront Trail at the Farmers Market!
Picture
Above is my digital design for the Year of Water mural.  It is a panoramic view illustrating our community's connection to water - including both natural and man made water systems.

As part of the "Year of Water" campaign, the NYS Water Resources Institute is asking you these questions...
We use water everyday, but...
Where does our water come from?
How and where is it cleaned so we can use it?
How does it get to our houses, schools, businesses, and restaurants, and where does it go once it leaves?
What else does water do for our community?
Further questions...
How can community members participate in making sure our water systems are thoughtful, safe, and not harming people and the environment?
How can environmental disasters impact our current water treatment process?
What does it take to have ecologically sound water systems?
Who is polluting our waters?  Who is keeping them safe?
YEAR OF WATER

We've organized this beautiful mural as a creative and educational bridge between water, the Ithaca Area Wastewater Treatment Facility, and residents.
The Facility can treat up to 13.1 million gallons of wastewater every day, collecting and processing used water from homes and businesses before sending it back into Cayuga Lake.
The treatment facility serves a critical role in human and environmental health - which is itself a combination of human resources, engineering, chemistry, and biology - all working together!
