Want to paint?

PRIVATE PROPERTY    PUBLIC CITY PROPERTY    SCHOOLS    ITHACA GRAFFITI
PRIVATE PROPERTY
One of the easiest ways to paint a mural is to find a wall you like, find out who owns it,
put together a portfolio that shows some of your artwork, and ask them.
If possible, overlay a sketch (painted or drawn) of your proposal on a photograph of the blank wall.
If this is your first mural, collaborate with friends or pull together a support group for it to be as successful as possible.

Post on social media that you are looking for walls to paint!

Murals on homes are an up-and-coming trend.
There's only about 8 in Ithaca so far, but soon it will catch like fire!

PUBLIC CITY PROPERTY
Collegetown Garage, Green St Garage, Seneca St Garage, City Hall, DPW buildings, stairwells, retaining walls, parks, bridges, etc.
If you'd like permission to paint a mural on public property...
  • Contact Planning Department at City Hall (Lisa Nicholas 607-274-6550, Lisa Deborah Grunder 607-274-6551).
  • Send emails to the Community Life Commission at CL@cityofithaca.org (not sure this group is active).
  • Fill out this Mural Application Form.
  • Be persistent! The squeaky artist gets the wall.

MURALS ON CROSSWALKS & INTERSECTIONS
This is a really really complicated City application, but with teamwork and planning ahead, anything is possible.
City Hall Application for Intersections
In Portland there's a culture of neighbors talking with each other and organizing "Intersection Repair" mural projects in the streets without asking their government for permission.

Would you like a mural on your home, garage, fence, school, workplace, or Vehicle?

Ithaca Murals can help match you with a style, theme and artist of your choice!
Message us to let us know!

...and then there are those that have the self-determination to not ask permission first.
